A penny for your thoughts
A nickel for your time
For one who writes such lovely verse
I'd sacrifice a dime

You can't make a living on poetry
Go find a career in industry

Your poems are quite profound
That's a marvelous brain in your head
Yes your thoughts will change the world
But only after you're dead

You can't make a living on poetry
You say you're not qualified for industry
You know how to write--how to do it well
But living life on Earth is your living Hell

Well now I'm out of time
But for that marvelous brain in your head
I sacrifice this dime which buys nothing anymore
